Description

I've been meaning to do things purely for practice purposes, so I decided to see how good my portrait skills were, although really this is mainly just an exercise in painting and colour.

While this is based on a photo of Ms Portman, there was no tracing (hence why she's come out looking a little like Wynona Ryder), it was all done by eye, although I did use a grid for the initial sketch (I did try to sketch by eye first, but the results were... less than spectacular).

It took me a good long while to get the eyes and lips right, so much so that I personally don't feel my strength is in portraits, or even still life, but I am confident now that, with some more practice I can get a good grasp of hair and skin tone (especially hair, I'm not entirely happy with the hair here), at least enough to paint my own faces and people. As such, it's likely I may do more of these celebrity portraits for practice purposes (they're quick enough to do and pretty fun too).

This is very good for a practice painting, the only main issue I have is with the eyes ofcourse, but not the painting technique. Just the fact that natalie portmans eyes are a little bit thinner than what you have painted but nonetheless it was still very well done. The proportions seem to be very correct especially if you painting it from eye, The only other thing is the hair, in some spots it looks a little messy where more detail could have been added. Those I give you props because the strands of hair are very thin and you must have a lot of patience to try and detail this like you did <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)"/> Pretty good piece keep up the good work !
